ABSTRACT

During the study period we recorded 29 species The fish production plays a significant role in the human economy. India has vast potential for development of inland fisheries. In the present study an attempt has been made to evaluate the physico-chemical characteristic features and fish fauna diversity of Kolleru Lake Eluru District. It proposed to enhancement of fish production in a sub urban perennial water body in Eluru district of Andhra Pradesh. The study was conducted during May 2021 to April 2022. The study revealed that different regions of the tank receive variable precipitation and hence meteorological factors governing the physico-chemical properties of the tank which in turn influence planktonic diversity and so that all the physico-chemical and biological factors have direct influence on the fish production. The present study, it observed that all the physico-chemical parameters are at nearly permissible limit at all the 3 identified stations. It is estimated that the fish fauna of Kolleru Lake consists of 29 species belonging to 12 families. Among the collections 10 species of Cypriniformes, order Siluriformes consists of 5 species, Channiformes consists of 05 species, Perciformes 03 species, and Osteoglossiformes 01 species. Therefore, it is suggested that the immediate measures may be to avoid further contamination of this Lake which has been started contaminated due to anthropological activities. Finally it may be concluded that the Kolleru Lake is rich in fish diversity and is still in a position to set a good example of conservation of native fish fauna by the sustainable management practices.

ABSTRACT

The use of antimicrobials in fish farming is a reflection of the fast aquaculture development worldwide. The intensification of aquaculture to achieve market demands could lead to an increase in infectious diseases by pathogenic bacteria. Consequently, antimicrobials act as controls for emerging infectious diseases, but their use must follow the rules and regulations of the country where the activity is performed. Although the regulations impose limits to the use of antimicrobials in fish farming, many studies show that resistant bacteria are isolated from this system. The selection of resistant bacteria is not limited only to the use of antimicrobials, but also to co-selection of resistance genes or even with cross-resistance processes. Resistant bacteria from fish farming are a serious concern because they can be acquired by humans with handling or food chain, which may represent a public health problem. In the present review, we present an overview of antimicrobials use in aquaculture, the antimicrobial resistance and the impact of antimicrobial and bacterial resistance from a public health perspective.(AU)


O uso de antimicrobianos na piscicultura é um reflexo do rápido desenvolvimento da aquicultura em todo o mundo. A intensificação da aquicultura para suprir as demandas do mercado pode levar ao aumento de doenças infecciosas por bactérias patogênicas. Consequentemente, os antimicrobianos atuam no controle de doenças infecciosas emergentes, mas seu uso deve seguir as regras e regulamentos do país onde a atividade é realizada. Embora os regulamentos imponham limites ao uso de antimicrobianos na piscicultura, muitos estudos mostram que bactérias resistentes são isoladas desse sistema. A seleção de bactérias resistentes não se limita apenas ao uso de antimicrobianos, mas também à cosseleção de genes de resistência ou mesmo por meio do processo de resistência cruzada. As bactérias resistentes da piscicultura são uma preocupação séria, uma vez que tais bactérias podem ser adquiridas pelos seres humanos no manuseio ou na cadeia alimentar, o que pode representar um problema de saúde pública. Nesta revisão, apresentamos uma visão geral do uso de antimicrobianos na aquicultura, a resistência antimicrobiana e o impacto da resistência antimicrobiana e bacteriana do ponto de vista da saúde pública.(AU)

ABSTRACT

Omics is a new technology that uses genomics, proteomics, and metabolomics to investigate metabolites from foods. The global demand for fish has shown a progressive increase because it is a significant source of high quality protein, polyunsaturated fatty acids, especially omega-3, and essential minerals. However, there are barriers in the fishery production chain such as lack of standardization, knowledge, and technology transfer to industry. Moreover, fish effective monitoring is difficult due to restricted quality parameters and analytical methods determined by current Brazilian legislation. This review details the limiting chemical parameters and recent advances in analytical procedures for fish quality determination. To improve fish quality monitoring, total volatile basic nitrogen (TVB-N), trimethylamine (TMA), ammonia, pH, and biogenic amines values should be revised and established by fish category and/or type of fish product. On the other hand, protein carbonyl concentration, free fatty acids (FFAs), peroxide values (POV), and thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) should be included in the national legislation. Simultaneously, the official authorities should take into account effective, practical, and low cost analytical methodologies, which lead to faster results in order to facilitate and enhance the quality control of the products from the fish production chain, ensuring the consumer's health. Moreover, analytical techniques for the identification of fish species must be introduced in the Brazilian legislation in order to avoid illegal substitutions and negative impacts to consumers.(AU)


Os procedimentos ômicos são uma nova tecnologia que utiliza a genômica, proteômica e metabolômica para avaliar metabólitos dos alimentos. A demanda mundial de pescado tem aumentado progressivamente devido à elevada qualidade de proteínas, minerais e ácidos graxos poli-insaturados, especialmente ômega-3. Todavia, a cadeia produtiva aquícola apresenta limitações como falta de padronização, ausência de conhecimento e transferência de tecnologia para as indústrias. Além disso, torna-se difícil garantir um monitoramento efetivo do pescado em decorrência das limitações dos parâmetros de qualidade atuais e dos métodos analíticos estabelecidos pela legislação nacional. O presente trabalho analisa os fatores limitantes relacionados aos parâmetros químicos, bem como os avanços recentes nos procedimentos analíticos, para determinação da qualidade do pescado. Levando-se em consideração a melhoria no controle de qualidade dessa matriz, os parâmetros de bases voláteis totais (BVT), trimetilamina (TMA), amônia, pH e aminas biogênicas deveriam ser revisados e estabelecidos por categorias de pescado e/ou por tipo de produto à base de pescado. Em contrapartida, parâmetros relacionados à concentração de carbonilas, ácidos graxos livres (AGLs), índice de peróxidos (IP) e malonaldeído (MDA) poderiam ser inseridos na legislação nacional. Simultaneamente, as autoridades oficiais devem levar em consideração metodologias analíticas que apresentem efetividade, praticidade, baixo custo e rapidez, facilitando e aprimorando o controle de qualidade de produtos de pescado e garantindo a saúde dos consumidores. Além disso, técnicas analíticas para identificação das espécies de peixes devem ser incluídas na legislação brasileira visando evitar substituições ilegais e impactos negativos aos consumidores.(AU)

Abstract The present study characterises the commercial fisheries of the basin of the Xingu River, a major tributary of the Amazon River, between the towns of Gurupá (at the mouth of the Amazon) and São Félix do Xingu. Between April, 2012, and March, 2014, a total of 23,939 fishing trips were recorded, yielding a total production of 1,484 tons of fish, harvested by almost three thousand fishers. The analysis of the catches emphasizes the small-scale and artisanal nature of the region’s fisheries, with emphasis on the contribution of the motorised canoes powered by “long-tail” outboard motors. Larger motorboats operate only at the mouth of the Xingu and on the Amazon. Peacock bass (Cichla spp.), croakers (Plagioscion spp.), pacu (a group containing numerous serrasalmid species), aracu (various anostomids), and curimatã (Prochilodus nigricans) together contributed more than 60% of the total catch. Mean catch per unit effort was 18 kg/fisher–1.day–1, which varied among fishing methods (type of vessel and fishing equipment used), river sections, and time of the year. In most cases, yields varied little between years (2012 and 2013). The technical database provided by this study constitutes an important resource for the regulation of the region’s fisheries, as well as for the evaluation of future changes resulting from the construction of the Belo Monte dam on the Xingu River.


Resumo Este trabalho teve como objetivo caracterizar a pesca comercial de consumo na bacia do rio Xingu, afluente do rio Amazonas, no trecho entre a cidade de Gurupá (localizada na foz do Rio Amazonas) até São Félix do Xingu, no estado do Pará, Brasil. No período de abril de 2012 a março de 2014 foram registradas 23.939 viagens de pesca, totalizando uma produção de 1.484 toneladas de pescado, obtidas por quase 3.000 pescadores. A análise dos dados oriundos do monitoramento dos desembarques demonstrou que a pesca na região tem caráter artesanal de pequena escala, destacando-se a participação de canoas motorizadas que utilizam um motor de popa chamado “rabeta”. Os barcos motorizados atuam somente na foz do rio Xingu e no rio Amazonas. Tucunaré (Cichla spp), pescada-branca (Plagioscion spp), pacu (várias espécies de Serrasalmidae), aracu (várias espécies de Anostomidae) e curimatã (Prochilodus nigricans) perfazem mais de 60% do total capturado. A captura média por unidade de esforço é de 18 kg.pescador–1.dia–1 e muda dependendo da modalidade de pesca (tipo de embarcação e arte de pesca), do pesqueiro utilizado e da época do ano. Na maior parte dos casos, não encontramos diferenças nos rendimentos de 2012 e 2013. As informações técnicas geradas são importantes para subsidiar ações de ordenamento pesqueiro, bem como para avaliar futuras mudanças que possam ocorrer na atividade frente à construção da barragem de Belo Monte no Rio Xingu.

ABSTRACT

Se determina la influencia del aumento de la temperatura (17 a 20°C), la ración (2,5 por ciento a 3,5 por ciento del peso día) y la frecuencia de alimentación (4 a 6 veces día), en el crecimiento y la supervivencia de juveniles de turbot (Psetta maxima) en un sistema productivo comercial durante 35 días. Los resultados muestran que el crecimiento de los juveniles provenientes del nuevo protocolo de cultivo experimental ensayado es mayor y muestra una tasa específica de crecimiento, significativamente diferente respecto a los cultivados con el protocolo base, sin afectar la supervivencia, la que se mantiene en 99,8 por ciento. Se sugiere realizar mayores estudios para aislar o definir exactamente el efecto sinérgico de las variables definidas, así como complementar los resultados obtenidos con un estudio econométrico que evalúe su real aporte económico dentro de la cadena productiva del cultivo...


The influence of water temperature (17 and 20°C), frequency (4 and 6) and feed ration level (2.5 percent and 3.5 percent) on the growth and survival of juvenile turbot (Psetta maxima) in a commercial productive system was investigated over 35 days. The results indicate that fish from the experimental protocol exhibited better growth and significant difference in specific growth rate than those raised with basic protocol, without affecting survival that remains at 99.8 percent. It is suggested further studies to isolate or define exactly the synergistic effect of the variables defined and complement the results obtained with an econometric study which evaluate their real economic contribution within the productive chain of culture...

ABSTRACT

The aim of this study was to develop label for Nile tilapia minimally processed. Analyses were performed to quantify the nutritional components of the fillets; and information about freshness, date of processing and batch specification was collected. Such data were essential for designing labels providing information about the traceability system and presenting codes for quality identification such as the Quick Response Code (QR Code), which allows the electronic encoding of the product on a database. Mandatory food labeling associated with the use of QR Code are tools that convey information to consumers about food quality and the entire production chain. One hundred sixty-two potential consumers were surveyed about the general characteristics of the product packaged in poly nylon film type, vacuum-packed, used for the packaging of traced fresh-cut fillets of tilapia minimally processed and kept under refrigeration (0±1oC). According to the Spearman correlation the variables packaging, general appearance and willingness to purchase the product presented a correlation, with coefficients estimated at 0.437, 0.466 and 0.497 respectively.
